Sometimes when cheerleading gets brought up most people think that it’s just a bunch of jumping around and screaming for other sports. I mean that’s what we do on the sideline but there’s more to it, competitive cheerleading is the real-deal. Which makes cheerleading a real sport.
My paper is going to go into telling you that competitive cheerleading is just as hard as football, your asking why I’m writing this paper? It’s because I think that cheerleading is a sport and that people need to know and I myself am a competitive cheerleading.
People may think that competitive /sideline is just a bunch of pretty girls that think about themselves, get what they want and have major attitudes, But were not or at least for some of us.
In competitive cheerleading they’re are no pads, no time outs, and no second chances. What is competitive cheerleading you ask? It’s where you work really hard and prepare for a routine for months and months till it is perfected. In that routine you would half to have stunts, motion sequence, dances, a tumble sequence and a peramid. In football you simply throw a football but in cheerleading you actually throw a real person and you need to have trust in the person who catches you. Not catching a football leads to not doing it again and not catching a person leads to breaking a body part.
In competitive cheerleading we also get judged on a whole variety of things in our routine that we only have one shot to do, and in football you only get judge on your score in the ending of the game that you have many chances to make up for.
Don’t get me wrong they both have similarities as both being contact sports, remembering where to go and working as a team. But whatever’s I’m not going to go into that right now.
I mean come on now try performing when your all tired and grouchy and irritated and have to have a smile on your face or imagine getting hit in the face from the person that your carrying and not being able to catch them just because it’s your fault for not grabbing or being in the right placement at a certain time from the beginning that you started.
My point is that Competitive cheerleading and everything that revolves around the word cheerleading should be considered a sport.

Hmmm....let me see...so what you are trying to say is that cheerleading should be equal to or, dare I say it, more difficult than football? WoW, you do make a few good points and yes I do agree with you when it comes to calling Competitive cheerleading a sport, but not where you say its harder than football....sorry, you're gonna have to do better than that sister...=)
Yea i kinda see where you are coming from. And honestly i feel that cheer leading is one of the most under rated sports in the world. I mean i see you guys working hard and i will agree that i wouldn't be able to be a cheer leader because for one im not gay lol and for two I would get to frustrated. you guys work hard for months and months for ONE performace and one chance. It's tough! i know it is but keep working hard and you can go as far as your mind takes you. Hopefully i will see you one day on TV as a pro or at least a college cheerleader! Good luck Venus!
You have a very good point, Venus. Cheerleading should be more recognized in the world today, not because I a cheerleader, cuz I'm not, but because you guys work really hard. But you should have gone into comparing cheerleading and football more, because it was kinda a weak comparison. Good job though! ^_^
Venus,
I see your points on why cheerleading is considered a sport. I'm sure it's hardcore and I do consider competitive cheerleading a sport. I give you MAAAAAAJOOR props on being a competitive cheerleading. You should of done some comparing to make this an even better essay. But good job. =]
venus,
i for one experienced cheerleading and changed my aspect on it. i knew cheerleading was a hard sport but i didn't really think it was going to kick my butt. Honestly i'm more afraid to be in the air then getting hit by a girl twice the size then me in soccer. I truly gained so much respect for the sport and you guys as well. I'm glad you wrote this paper! People (especially boys) need to know that cheerleading is harder then they think!! =)
well lets see elijah, cheerleading can be as equal to football in different aspects. N E ways! you are totally right. cheerleading is a very hard sport and we do only have ONE SHOT, ONE CHANCE to shine. and for anyone, elijah, who doesn't believe that it is a hard sport how about you try it first and then give your opinion. grrr!
aww veevee!!
In all honesty I hated it.
just kidding!! Its a really great essay. I never really knew how hard cheerleading really is even though i hang out with you guys and all. You helped me see that Cheerleaders really do Kick Ass!! love you
<3 Ana
I think all sports should be equal, no matter how vigorous one may thing. ONly professionals know how difficult their sport is. For example, a football player cannot judge the rigor of competitive cheerleading if he has not experienced it himself. So good job, cheerleader!
